FAQs
What is vermeil?
Vermeil is basically gold plating. But has many benefits over standard gold plating, which has no requirements for amount or thickness.
Vermeil means: 1. The gold is at least 10 karats pure, 2. Plated on top of silver, unlike brass or copper commonly used in gold plating 3. Is at least 2.5 microns thick .
There are still certain measures you should take to take care of your vermeil jewelry. Please keep reading!
How to take care of your vermeil jewelry?
Plated jewelry can start to look tarnished or bad because the base metal under the gold is starting to corrode or oxidize.
This means you should try and prevent oxidizing! You should remove plated jewelry when: swimming in chlorinated pools or salty water, showering, directly spraying perfumes or hair sprays. This kind of care will help really lengthen the life of your jewelry.
